Spring is the season when new fruits and vegetables arrive on the shelves.
Since March 20th, the Spring season has arrived and will last until the end of June. Long live Spring, its sunshine and light breezes! We suggest that you devote an article each month to the new fruits and vegetables appearing on the market stalls, as well as a few easy recipes.
This month full of new fruits and vegetables have made a comeback such as tangerine, mango, asparagus or Jerusalem artichoke. Choosing seasonal fruits and vegetables not only gives you a variety of pleasures, it's also more economical and much better. And, let's face it, it's always more fun to make fruit juices and salads with fresh produce!
Fruit
Sometimes we lack a little inspiration when it comes to choosing tempting fresh produce. Yet the seasonal fruits in April are varied! So this year, instead of filling your basket with melons, bananas and apples, dare to choose less common, more... exotic fruits such as papaya or mango.
However, these are not the only fruits that land on the stalls of our markets, here are some other fruits of Spring:
Apricot
Lawyer
Strawberry
Raspberry
Passion fruit
Kiwi
Litchi
Tangerine
Blackberry
Grapefruit
Prune
Rhubarb
With all this fruit there's enough to make a tasty sweet salad, don't you think? And why not a smoothie made from banana, apple and kiwi fruit? As all combinations are possible we have no doubt that you will be resourceful! Nothing prevents you from adding vegetables like carrots or tomatoes, which are sweet vegetables, to your blender.
Vegetables
If you usually tend to overlook vegetables because you don't like them or don't know how to cook them, it's time to change your habits. Because everyone knows it: "vegetables are good for your health". Moreover it is recommended to "eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day".
So here are some good vegetables to eat in April:
Artichoke
White asparagus
Beetroot
Carrot
White cabbage and red cabbage
Celery
Cucumber
Courgette
Endives
Spinach
Lettuce
Leek
Pepper
Radish
Fresh recipe idea!
By the way, we found a recipe for coleslaw, celery and beetroot salad that is very easy to make. And not expensive!
You'll need the following ingredients: a head cabbage, half a celery, two cooked beets and a vinaigrette (or a dressing of your choice).
Four steps of preparation :
Wash the cabbage and cut it finely.
Peel the celery and grate it.
Peel and dice the beets.
Season and enjoy!!
Where to buy your fruit and vegetables?
You can easily find all these fruits and vegetables at the market near you. Unlike your usual grocery store or hypermarket, you'll be sure to get fresh produce.
You can also go to the Chapeau de Paille Pick-ups! They allow you to take a big breath of fresh air with your family and pick your own fruit and vegetables.
If you don't have the time to go there, there are still the organic shops and baskets. Organic baskets are a concept of agricultural cooperatives that deliver seasonal fruits and vegetables to your home.
